The Federal Registration Act requires each person to register at the local registration office within two weeks after moving into his or her apartment or room. This also applies, if you choose your place of study as a secondary residence.

"Main residence for students" campaign by the City of Würzburg
The city of Würzburg reimburses students who register in Würzburg as their main place of residence for the one-off cost of the semester ticket. After all, this is €90.90 (as of summer semester 2024), which you get for moving your main residence to Würzburg. For every apartment in the student residence, there has to be paid a licence fee directly to the "Beitragsservice von ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio", regardless of how many people live there, and whether and how many radios or TVs they own.
