Chip Card
When you enrolled at your university you were issued a student ID card.
This personalised card is a multifunctional chip card that serves as your
- student ID card
- library card
- key card
- electronic purse for cashless payment
The cashless payment function is offered by the Studierendenwerk Würzburg. Your chip card serves as electronic purse for payment at
- all canteens and cafeterias operated by the Studierendenwerk
- vending machines on campus
- the universities' cash desks
- the universities' printing and photocopying stations
- the washing machines and dryers at the student residences operated by the Studierendenwerk
The most important facts in a nutshell
You can load money on to your card at a variety of load locations on your campus and at larger facilities operated by the Studierendenwerk. You may use either cash or an EC card to load money on to your card.
The electronic purse helps speed up the payment process at our canteen and cafeteria checkout counters. Please make sure you always have enough money loaded on to your card - if you pay cash at canteens or cafeterias operated by the Studierendenwerk, you will be charged 10% extra. In addition, many of our canteens and cafeterias no longer accept payment in cash.
If you load cash on to your card at a canteen or cafeteria checkout counter although there is a load location nearby, you will be charged a service fee of €1
For questions and problems regarding the chip card please refer to the contacts at Studierendenwerk at your location (see down below).
If your card is damaged or defective, please contact your university first. Your university will issue a new card for you. After you have received your new card, the Studierendenwerk Würzburg will be able to pay your money out in cash (this is also possible if you are no longer enrolled at your university). For this, however, it is absolutely necessary that you bring your old card with you!
