Each student in Bamberg gets the semester ticket!

All students of the University of Bamberg automatically receive the semester ticket after having registered or re-registered.

Only if all students participate in joint financing can the ticket price be reduced to an acceptable minimum for everyone. This means that the agreement is binding for all students, including those who do not want to or cannot use the semester ticket (e. g. during a stay abroad or an internship outside Bamberg).

Guest students and severely disabled persons, provided that they are entitled to free transport, are excepted from that agreement.

The semester ticket is not a ticket everyone can buy, it is only available for students registered with the University of Bamberg (ticket = student ID card/chip card). All students in Bamberg have to pay a fixed amount, even if they do not want to use the semester ticket. It is not possible to buy the semester ticket on a voluntary basis, even if you study at a neighbouring/other university. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions.

As of winter semester 2024: €48.60 per semester.

When registering or re-registering, each student pays €48.60 extra in addition to the semester fee.

A full 6 months.

The semester ticket is valid for one semester, also during the semester break.

The winter semester regularly covers the period from 01 October to 31 March and the summer semester covers the period from 01 April to 30 September.

You need the chip card (student ID card)!

The student ID card (= the personalised chip card) also serves as ticket for buses and trains. Ticket inspectors will only accept the chip card; printouts of certificates of study will not be accepted. The ticket is not transferable to other persons.

The semester ticket is valid for all bus and train services in the city and district of Bamberg. Connecting journeys exceeding the fare zone of the Bamberg semester ticket are regulated by the VGN . The semester ticket is only valid on trains that, according to schedule, stop at the last station within the tariff zone!
When leaving the semester tickets's area of validity, the following connection rules apply.
